The Chair called the meeting to order on Treaty 6 Territory and the Traditional Homeland of the Métis people, and confirmed roll call of the members in attendance via teleconference.

Due to time constraints, the Standing Policy Committee on Transportation at its meeting held on February 1, 2021 referred this item to the March 1, 2021 meeting.

A report of the General Manager, Transportation and Construction dated February 1, 2021 was provided, along with the referenced communication from Mahmood Shafqat dated January 31, 2021.

General Manager, Transportation and Construction Schmidt and Director of Transportation Magus responded to questions from the Committee.

General Manager, Transportation & Construction Schmidt, Director of Transportation Magus and Senior Transportation Engineer Baudais responded to questions of the Committee.

General Manager, Transportation & Construction Schmidt presented the report, and together with Senior Transportation Engineer Baudais responded to questions of the Committee.

 

Director of Transportation Magus provided a PowerPoint and together with General Manager, Transportation and Construction Schmidt, Public Engagement Manager Newell, and Communications Manager McKee responded to questions from the Committee.

Committee discussed a more in-depth outreach to seniors regarding the engagement survey.

Councillor Dubois excused herself temporarily from the meeting at 4:08 p.m. and Councillor Jeffries assumed the Chair.

The Committee recessed at 4:14 p.m. and reconvened at 4:25 p.m. with Councillor Dubois in the Chair.

Item 7.1.5 was considered following 7.1.3.

A request to speak from Darcy Pederson, ATU Local 615 dated February 26, 2021 was added to this item.

General Manager, Transportation & Construction Schmidt presented the report.

Darcy Pederson, ATU Local 615, spoke in regards to Bus Operators requiring more de-escalation training and the implementation plan for assault shields on buses.

General Manager, Transportation & Construction Schmidt together with Director of Saskatoon Transit McDonald responded to questions of the Committee.

    2. That Administration meet with ATU to discuss further options to enhance the de-escalation training and report back to Committee.

    That the Standing Policy Committee on Transportation recommend to City Council:

    1. That the revisions to Council Policy C07-025, Loading Zones be approved to permit installation and signing of loading zones near Canada Post community mailboxes; and
    2. That the City Clerk be requested to update the policy as outlined in the report of the General Manager, Transportation & Construction dated March 1, 2021.
