The Chair called the meeting to order on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis people.

    1. That the Administration provide the Saskatoon Accessibility Advisory Committee with the current and future rehabilitation work plan locations related to the audible pedestrian signals and curb cuts; and
    2. That the Transportation 2018 Annual Report be provided to the Saskatoon Accessibility Advisory Committee for information.

Mr. Robert Clipperton, Bus Riders of Saskatoon stated that eliminating paper signage deprives transits users of information they need to successfully get where they need to go.  Mr. Clipperton provided a PowerPoint presentation.

Ms. Marjaleena Repo spoke against Saskatoon Transit's plan to eliminate paper notices and stated that many Transit customers rely on this valuable service and will not easily be able to adjust to digital communication. Ms. Repo provided a copy of her presentation.

Mr. Louis Mayrand stated that without paper notice bus riders like himself that do not own a cell phone will be completely at a loss for information.  Mr. Mayrand submitted a binder of information.

Mr. Peter Gallen spoke against discontinuing the practice of posting paper notices at bus stops to alert riders of detours, and noted many bus riders in Saskatoon still rely on paper notices.

Director of Saskatoon Transit McDonald responded to questions of the Committee.

    That the Standing Policy Committee on Transportation recommend to City Council that in addition to a digital approach, Saskatoon Transit continue using physical notices for bus detours and changes at the impacted bus stops.

Councillor Dubois commended the Saskatoon Accessibility Advisory Committee for taking on this initiative.

    Item 7.1.9 was considered following Item 7.1.3.



A letter from Brent Penner, Executive Director, Downtown Saskatoon, requesting to speak, was provided.

General Manager, Transportation & Construction Schmidt presented the report.

Mr. Brent Penner, Executive Director, Downtown Saskatoon thanked the Administration for the report and noted he was not supportive of Option 3 in the report, and that Downtown Saskatoon is open to opportunities to assist in this regard.

Director of Roadways, Fleet & Support Saric answered questions of the Committee.

    2. That the Administration report back on opportunities to work with Downtown Saskatoon on both communications and physical handling of snow.

Engineering Manager LeBoutillier answered questions of the Committee. 

Mayor Clark excused himself from the meeting at 5:26 p.m.

    That the Standing Policy Committee on Transportation recommend to City Council that a speed study be done at the Chief Mistawasis Bridge corridor, including if there are any instances of accidents involving wildlife, with a comparison to other roadways surrounding the city, and any information regarding traffic infractions.

    The Standing Policy Committee on Transportation convened In Camera at 5:52 p.m. in order to receive Solicitor advice. All members of Committee with the exception of Mayor Clark were in attendance as well as the City Manager, General Manager, Transportation and Construction, Director of Transportation, Solicitor, and Deputy City Clerk.
