The Chair called the meeting to order on Treaty 6 Territory and the Traditional Homeland of the Métis People and confirmed roll call.

Chair Horn advised that the annual report and work plan had been accepted by the Standing Policy Committee on Planning, Development and Community Services at their meeting on March 5, 2025.

Heritage and Design Coordinator Kellie Grant provided an update to announce her retirement and advised that this was her final meeting. The Committee offered their well wishes and thanks for her work over the years.

Committee Member Lloyd Moker provided an update to announce his retirement from the Sutherland Business Improvement District at the end of March and advised that this was his final meeting. The Committee offered their well wishes and thanks for his work over the years.

Committee Member Anne-Marie Cey provided an update on the following:


Five Corners Sign Installation


The Five Corners Sign will be installed around June 5th and the Committee will be invited to attend the unveiling.

This subcommittee was established to assist in the planning of the Municipal Heritage Awards and Doors Open Event.

Chair Horn advised the Committee that the Events Subcommittee met and reached out to several organizations to see if the Heritage Awards can be combined with other awards events and that an event organizer would likely still be required. The organizations approached were Heritage Saskatchewan, the Saskatoon Heritage Society, and a realtors group.  The Committee briefly discussed the past structure of the awards, submission criteria and procedures.

This subcommittee was established to explore revisions to policy including, but not limited to The Heritage Property Act or the regulations thereunder and on Policy C10-020, Civic Heritage Policy. Additionally this subcommittee will develop a scope of work to further investigate intangible heritage, and recommend an Intangible Cultural Heritage program for the City of Saskatoon.

This subcommittee was established to support heightened awareness of the value and issues regarding preservation of Saskatoon’s historic resources and promote and publicize the heritage of Saskatoon (both intangible and tangible) and provide support to partners who tell the Saskatoon story.

This subcommittee was established to develop a scope of work to further investigate intangible heritage, and recommend an Intangible Cultural Heritage program for the City of Saskatoon.

Committee Member Louis Aussant advised the Committee that the Intangible Heritage Subcommittee met and had reached out to the Métis Nation, Locale 11 Gabriel Dumont. He noted that a large recurring topic the Subcommittee has come across is funding and a more substantial update will be provided at the next meeting.

In accordance with the Committees Terms of Reference, it shall submit an annual report outlining the previous year's accomplishments and a work plan for the upcoming year.

The 2025 Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee Work Plan Overview was provided.

The Standing Policy Committee on Planning, Development and Community Services, at its meeting held on February 14, 2022 considered the following item and resolved that the Administration meet with Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee to determine what portions of the Official Community Plan and Heritage Plan and Policy need addressing/prioritization.  These would be discussions only during regular Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee meetings.


This is a standing item to provide an opportunity to discuss the Heritage Plan and Policy.
